We don’t care
The Federal Environment Minister seems to say:
I don’t take responsibility
For emissions Scopes 1, 2 or 3.
They’ve got nothing to do with me.
Though temperatures and floods are rising,

And animals and people are dying,
I think you’re just catastrophising.
It’s got nothing to do with me.
Reducing climate change? – not my responsibility,
I’m the Federal Environment Minister, you see.
Let Greta Thunberg ask how I dare,
But I accept no duty of care
For our kid’s future health and economy
Diminished by our coal mining gluttony.
We need coal mines more than clean water and air,
And more than a climate we can all bear.
So, as long as I can approve a coal mine,
I feel we are all doing fine.
Note: This poem refers to then Federal Liberal Minister for the Environment, now Opposition Leader, who, in July 2022, successfully appealed a Federal Court decision that she has a duty of care to protect children from future personal injury caused by climate change.
And now, Federal Labor and the Coalition have both opposed a private members Duty of Care Bill which aims to amend the Climate Change Act 2022 to ensure decisions that are likely to result in substantial greenhouse gas emissions cannot be made without consideration of the impact they have on the health and wellbeing of Australian children and future generations.
Can you believe it? What are our politicians for? They obviously don’t care about Australia’s children, or us, for that matter.
